Finite element modelling can give insight into the stress and strain distribution in mechanical components under a range of conditions. However, knowing exactly what those conditions are can be very difficult to predict accurately. Even if you are able to accurately predict the load cases you cannot be certain that your model has the correct stiffness characteristics.
This is where strain gauge testing can help. Using strain gauge testing we are able to not only validate a model but measure the loads and stress distribution. By using logging equipment, such as those we design, this information can be collected for long periods of time allowing the capture of stresses and loads which the designer could never predict.
All this helps to identify the causes of existing problems and facilitate the design of improved products.
