LC has been involved in commercial structural monitoring of draglines for over ten years. The development of our logging systems was combined with our existing expertise in Finite Element Analysis of dragline structures, production monitoring and signals interpretation. We have installed the MAX watchdog system on over twenty machines in Australia and South Africa and we have a proven track record of helping our client successfully manage fatigue and productivity issues.

LC has been the leader in a number of developments in dragline logging. Examples include:

• The merging of video with signal traces for forensic analysis
• The provision of training for all people on site
• Open-architecture systems and data
• Providing the models and full analysis to customers on Finite Element Analysis jobs
• Stressing the importance of being able to connect with other systems
• Providing continual monitoring of the systems and data
• Providing expert interpretation of the data

LC’s developments in the structural monitoring area and monitoring of the benefits to the customers have shown the following:

• Conventional wisdom on what is effective in fatigue reduction is often wrong
• Reduction of dragline fatigue rates cannot be done without:
• Effective training
• Continual, long term feedback
• What looks good does not necessarily translate into better outcomes
